Suspension and Steering Repair
Suspension wear happens slowly, so most drivers do not notice it until a tire wears out early or a bump makes a noise that was not there last year. Those same parts decide whether an alignment holds, which is why we inspect them with every alignment we do.
What the symptoms point at
A clunk over bumps usually means a small link or a worn rubber bushing has gone loose. A vague, wandering feel on the freeway points at the joints in your steering, the ones that connect the wheels to the steering box. A nose dive when you brake, a floaty ride, and tires worn in scalloped patches point at shocks or struts that have stopped controlling the wheels. A steering wheel that does not come back to center on its own, or a pull that returned right after an alignment, is usually a worn part rather than an angle out of adjustment.
Worn parts will not hold an alignment
Setting the angles on a car with a worn joint is work you pay for twice, because the angles move again as soon as the weight shifts. That is why an alignment here starts with an inspection underneath, and why we will tell you when the honest order is repair first, then align. It is a shorter conversation than the one where you come back in a month.
Sun and heat are hard on rubber
A lot of what holds your suspension in place is rubber, and rubber does not last in constant heat and direct sun. Bushings crack and let things shift under load, the little rubber boots that keep grease in and grit out split open, and once grit gets into a joint, the ending is known. Those are cheap to spot on a lift and expensive to ignore.
