Auto Repair Palm Desert

Pete's Automotive Service sits just across Interstate 10 from Palm Desert. Take Monterey Avenue north over the freeway, turn left on Haskell Road, and we are on Arbol Real. Palm Desert drivers have made that short hop since 1981, and plenty of them arrive holding an estimate from a dealership on Highway 111.

What Palm Desert drivers bring us

Highway 111 and Fred Waring Drive are stop-and-go driving, and stop-and-go is the hardest thing there is on brakes and air conditioning. Add valley heat and those are the two systems that give out first, which is why brake work and A/C work sit alongside STAR smog checks, check engine lights, and factory-scheduled maintenance on the same visit.

The second opinion before the dealer estimate

A lot of first visits start as a second opinion on a dealership quote. Three ASE Master Technicians run the diagnosis, you hear the actual problem in plain language, and you decide. Qualifying work carries a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty, and the people who explain the repair are the people who perform it.

Seasonal residents and cars that sit

Half the year Palm Desert fills back up, and plenty of those cars sat through a desert summer while their owners were somewhere cooler. Sitting in heat is its own kind of wear: batteries weaken, tires lose air and develop flat spots, brake discs pick up a film of rust, fluids age, and rodents move into engine bays. A start-of-season inspection catches all of that before a road trip does.

What Palm Desert drivers come in for

Palm Desert drivers ask us

How do I get to your shop from Palm Desert?

Take Monterey Avenue north across Interstate 10 and stay on it into Thousand Palms. Turn left on Haskell Road, then right on Arbol Real, and we are at number 32125. It runs about eight miles from central Palm Desert. If you prefer Ramon Road, turn west off Monterey, pass the Circle K, and Arbol Real is on your left.

Do I have to sit in the waiting room while you work on my car?

No. We run a free shuttle. When you book, tell us you are coming from Palm Desert and where you need to be, and we will tell you right then whether we can run you there. If we cannot, you find that out while you are still on the phone instead of after you arrive.

I live in Palm Desert. Can I get my registration smog check done at your shop?

Yes. A California smog certificate is filed electronically with the DMV and is valid statewide, so where you live in the valley does not matter. We are a licensed STAR test and repair station, which also covers you if your renewal notice directs you to a STAR station specifically.

Is it worth driving across the freeway instead of using a Palm Desert shop?

That is your call, and we would rather earn it than argue for it. What you get here is a family-owned shop that has been on the same lot since 1981, three ASE Master Technicians under one roof, and owners who answer the phone. Call and describe the problem, and we will tell you straight whether it is worth the drive.

My car sat all summer while I was away. What should I have checked?

Start with the battery and the tires, which heat and time hit hardest, then the fluids, belts, hoses, and the A/C before you count on it. Our full inspection covers all of it in one visit, and it is a lot cheaper than finding the problem on Highway 111 in August.
