Auto Repair La Quinta

From La Quinta, take Washington Street north to Interstate 10, head west past Cook Street, and come off at Monterey Avenue. The shop is minutes ahead in Thousand Palms. La Quinta summers are brutal on air conditioning and batteries, and those are the two repairs worth getting ahead of before July.

Heat is the enemy

A/C diagnosis and repair, cooling system pressure tests, and charging and starting system checks that catch a dying battery before it strands you in a parking lot in August. Heat does more damage to a battery than cold ever does, which is why so many failures show up on the first cool morning.

The rest of the garage

STAR smog testing and repair, brakes, wheel alignment, engine diagnostics, and factory-scheduled maintenance, all backed by a 12-month / 12,000-mile warranty on qualifying work. One shop rather than a smog place, a tire place, and a dealer.

Short trips are harder than long ones

A lot of La Quinta driving is short hops around town. Those never get the engine fully warm and never fully recharge the battery. Carmakers put that kind of driving on their shorter maintenance schedule, which means oil changes sooner and closer attention to the battery and charging system.

What La Quinta drivers come in for

La Quinta drivers ask us

How do I get to your shop from La Quinta?

Washington Street north to Interstate 10, then west past Cook Street to the Monterey Avenue exit. North on Monterey, left on Haskell Road, right on Arbol Real, and we are at number 32125. About fourteen miles door to door.

Do I have to sit in the waiting room while you work on my car?

No. We run a free shuttle. When you book, tell us you are coming from La Quinta and where you need to be, and we will tell you right then whether we can run you there. If we cannot, you find that out while you are still on the phone instead of after you arrive.

I live in La Quinta. Can I get my registration smog check done at your shop?

Yes. A California smog certificate is filed electronically with the DMV and is valid statewide, so where you live in the valley does not matter. We are a licensed STAR test and repair station, which also covers you if your renewal notice directs you to a STAR station specifically.

Why does my battery keep dying even though it is not that old?

Desert heat cuts battery life well below the number on the sticker, and short around-town trips never fully recharge one. If the battery tests good and still goes flat, something is pulling power while the car is parked. We test the battery, the charging output, and that overnight drain instead of replacing parts on a guess.

Should I get the A/C serviced before summer?

Yes, and spring is the time. The system that is slightly low in April is the one that quits in July, and every shop in the valley fills up the week the first heat wave lands. An inspection then finds a small leak while it is still small.
